Editor Toolbar - Adding Content

Overview

This section provides a basic overview of the different options for adding content to your wiki using the Editor Toolbar. It provides instructions for adding links, images, files and certain widgets. Here is a snapshot of the content buttons on the Editor Toolbar:


 

Inserting Links 

The 'Link' button allows you to turn highlighted text into a link. You can link the text to a different page in your wiki, an anchor placed on a page in the wiki, or an external site. 

To insert a wiki page link:
  1. Highlight the desired text
  2. Click 'Link' button
  3. Type the name of the page you want to link in the Page Name field-box OR select the page from the dropdown menu
  4. Click 'Add Link'




To insert a link to an external website:
  1. Highlight the desired text
  2. Click 'Link' button
  3. Select the Web Address tab
  4. Type or paste the website URL in the Address field-box
  5. Click 'Add Link'
 

Inserting Images and Files 

The 'File' button allows you to upload files and add them to your wiki. Images, videos, and audio files will embed directly on the wiki page while other file types will embed a link to download the file. 

To insert an image:
  1. Place the cursor where you want the image to appear on the page
  2. Click 'File' button
  3. Click 'Upload Files' to access your images
  4. Select the image you want to upload
  5. After the image is done uploading, it will appear in the image uploader
  6. Click the image thumbnail to insert it on the page




To insert an external image: 
  1. Place the cursor where you want the image to appear on the page
  2. Click 'File' button
  3. Select the External Image tab
  4. Type or paste the image URL in the field-box
  5. Click 'Load'

To access image properties:
  1. Click on the image in the Visual Editor
  2. Choose alignment 
  3. Resize the image
  4. Turn the image into a link
  5. Add a caption to the image



 

Inserting Widgets 

The 'Widget' button allows you to embed media on your wiki. There are several Wikispaces widgets which can be used to customize the appearance and navigation of your wiki. You can embed almost any other type of media as long as you have the HTML code. 

To insert Wikispaces widgets:
  1. Place the cursor where you want the widget to appear on the page
  2. Click 'Widget' button
  3. Widgets tool automatically opens to Wikispaces widgets
  4. Select a widget from the list to see what they do
  5. Click 'Embed'




To insert other widgets (i.e. widgets obtained from 3rd party sites like Twitter, YouTube):
  1. Retrieve the HTML embedding code from the host website
  2. Place the cursor where you want the widget to appear on the page
  3. Click 'Widget' button
  4. Select the Other HTML tab
  5. Paste the HTML code into the field-box
  6. Click 'Preview' or 'Save'



 

Inserting Tables 

The 'Table' button allows you to add a basic table to your wiki. Tables are useful for organizing information. You can merge cells, create headers, add or remove columns and rows, and align the table. The table cells automatically adjust to fit the contents of the cell.

To insert a table:
  1. Place the cursor where you want the table to appear on the page
  2. Click 'Table' button
  3. Enter the desired number of columns and rows
  4. Click 'Insert Table'




To access table properties:
  1. Place the cursor inside a table cell
  2. Click the table icon in the bottom right corner of the cell 

Options:
This Cell > Alignment, Merge, Make Header
Row > Alignment, Add/Remove Row, Make Header
Column > Alignment, Add/Remove Column, Make Header
Table > Alignment, Remove Table
